Program Update

All City departments and branches were asked to find efficiencies to support Council’s goal to balance tax increases as part of the 2024 Fall Supplemental Operating Budget Adjustment (SOBA). Options were discussed and, based on budget decisions approved by Council, a number of programs will be adjusted and reduced.

Vibrant Streets is among the impacted programs and has been discontinued as of 2025.

2025 Decorative Crosswalks

While the Vibrant Streets program is no longer being offered, the City is pleased to continue to add vibrancy and celebrate diversity and inclusion by installing four Pride crosswalks and one in honour the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

The four planned locations for the Pride crosswalks are:

  • 84 Avenue - E/S 104 Street
  • 106 Street - N/S 82 Avenue
  • 103 Avenue - W/S 124 Street NW
  • 103 Street - N/S Princess Elizabeth Ave

The selected crosswalk locations support the Pride Corner in Old Strathcona, highlight the rich queer history on 124 Street, and honour prominent same-sex architects Wallbridge and Imrie with the Princess Elizabeth Apartments.

The artwork and location for the crosswalk to honour the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation will be confirmed closer to September 30.
